Write for us

We welcome pitches that help readers understand how a region takes shape: through its landscape, settlements, routes, boundaries or place names. A strong proposal has one clear question, a useful angle and a scope that can be explained without relying on specialist credentials.

What to pitch

Propose an original, evergreen piece that makes a regional pattern or idea easier to see. Comparisons, explanations and carefully framed histories can work well when they focus on a specific question rather than attempting to cover a whole region at once. The best pitches say what readers will understand by the end.

What to include

Tell us the working title, central question, proposed category and a short outline of the piece. Note the kinds of sources or material you would use, and disclose any relevant interests. We do not accept pitches that depend on unsupported claims or present one person's view as the voice of an entire community.

How to send a pitch

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication; please wait for a response before sending a complete manuscript.
